Children’s privacy notice · version 1.0 · 13 September 2026

What we know about you.

The first half of this page is written for you to read, whatever age you are. The second half says the same things with the legal words in, for a parent or a teacher.

A parent and child leaving the house together on a school morning
A parent sees the Family restrictions they manage, task confirmations and requests the child sends. Messages, location, the child’s own rules and private results stay private.
For you

Here’s the deal

Your parent can set it up so some apps wait until later — during school, at homework time, or first thing in the morning. You can also build your own rules, and those ones are yours.

We do not know where you are
Not your school, not your house, not your street. If a rule needs you to go outside, your phone works that out by itself and only tells us yes or no.
We cannot read your messages
Not one of them. Not who you talked to, not how many. Same with anything you search or watch. Nobody here can see it because we never get it.
Your parent sees less than you think
They see the Family restrictions they manage, tasks you confirm and requests you send. They do not see your messages, what you looked at, which apps you opened, your location, or the rules and results you keep for yourself.
Nobody at your school sees you
Not a teacher, not the head. If your school gets anything it is a number like “96 families take part” — never a name, never a class, never you.
We never sell anything about you
Grown-ups can choose to have their step counts added into big totals we sell reports from. Children are never in those, even if you wanted to be — and we could not add you if we tried.
No ads. None. Ever.
We do not show you adverts and we do not help anyone else show you adverts. Nothing about you goes to an advertising company.
If you are not happy about something

You can email us yourself. You do not need your parent to do it for you, and you do not need their permission to ask. Write to [email protected] and a person will reply in plain English.

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to delete it, or tell us you think something is unfair. Deletion requests go to our privacy team for review; asking does not immediately switch off Family restrictions, and a parent has no automatic veto. Those are your rights, not favours — and we have to answer within a month.

Choose the apps you need with your parent during setup and check that they work on your iPhone. The app cannot promise that every app is available. If you need urgent help, use your iPhone’s Emergency SOS or ask a trusted adult.

For parents, guardians and schools

The same thing, with the legal words.

This notice supplements our main privacy policy and follows the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code. Where the two differ for a child’s account, this notice is the stricter one and it applies.

Lawful basis
Contract for operating the account, with explicit consent for anything special-category. A child’s data is never processed on the basis of legitimate interests for analytics or improvement.
Age assurance
Family child accounts are linked to a household through adult-managed setup. Age assurance and parental-consent checks must be verified before release.
No profiling, no AI
Children are excluded from every recommendation, insight and inference feature — now and in future — and their data is never used to train or improve one. This is a schema-level exclusion, not a setting.
Nudge techniques
Children can see their own private progress. There are no public child rankings, no shaming, no guilt for a broken streak and no manufactured urgency. The sharper adult tones cannot be enabled on a child’s account by anyone, including a parent.
Always a way out
A Family restriction keeps its original end time and the completion methods allowed during setup, including offline. An early-unlock request can remain pending until a parent replies. Submitting a privacy request does not immediately remove restrictions.
At 18
The seat ends. History is deleted unless the young adult carries it into their own account. It cannot be transferred to a sibling.
Contact and complaints

Social Vortex Limited is the data controller, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. Write to [email protected] — from a parent or from a child, we answer both. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk, and you do not need to come to us first.
